Maui 5 Go 100, Is this the Ultimate Column Array? | I DJ NOW

Looking for a high-quality, battery-powered, portable sound system on a limited budget? Check out the Maui 5 GO 100 Column Array PA from LD Systems.

Just like its predecessor, the Maui 5 GO, the Maui 5 GO 100 Column array PA is a compact, lightweight solution; ideal for providing sound for every type of event, from house parties and cocktail hours, to wedding receptions and other gatherings of around 100 people or more.

Of the many great features found on the Maui 5 GO 100, there are a few key ones that you’re going to want to know right off the bat:

1) It’s incredibly lightweight!

The Maui 5 GO 100 consists of only 4 components that come in at around 28 lbs. total. It’s a full column array PA system that weighs less than your average powered PA speaker.

2) It’s powerful!

Despite being the smallest member of the MAUI family, the Maui 5 GO 100 pushes out 800 watts of class D peak power and maximum sound pressure level of 120 decibels. With that kind of power behind it, you can easily cover audiences of 100 or more. You’ve also got an 8” subwoofer for some punchy low end down to 50 hz.

3) It’s versatile!

The Maui 5 GO 100 features Bluetooth audio streaming, inputs for music playback, microphones and instruments, and has a stereo mode if you want to pair it with a second Maui 5 GO 100! Plus, the fact that it’s battery powered means you can put it anywhere you want!

Now let’s take a deeper dive and see what the Maui 5 GO 100 has to offer.

Let’s start at the base, which houses our subwoofer, mixer, and I/O.

What we’ve got here is a custom-made 8” subwoofer with a Ferrite magnet, 2” woofer voice coil, housed in an ABS cabinet with bass reflex construction. It’s around 16 inches tall, 12 inches wide, 15.5 inches deep, and weighs in at around 19-20 lbs.

If we flip this around, we’ve got our mixer. Here you’ve got 4 channels, a dedicated Bluetooth/media player channel, a Hi-Z Line channel, a standard line channel, and a Mic channel with a combo ¼”-XLR jack. There is also a sub level control for the subwoofer, a hi-boost for fine tuning the high frequencies, and some LED indicators:

  • “ON” for when the unit is properly connected and turned on.
  • “SIGNAL” for when the unit is receiving audio signal. It’s worth noting that the signal is received before the MAIN LEVEL control.
  • “LIMIT” for when the unit is being operated in its upper limit range. If you see it light up briefly that is not a problem, as there is an internal limiter, but if you see this on for long periods or permanently, make sure to lower the volume level or you may damage the unit.
  • “PROTECT” does a few things. You’ll see this come on permanently if the unit is overloading or overheating. At that point, the amplifiers are muted automatically until it returns to normal operating conditions. It will also flash when the system’s automatic standby mode is activated.
  • Mono/Stereo LEDs. Use the “SYSTEM “button to switch between MONO when using a single Maui 5 GO 100 and Stereo when pairing with another Maui 5 GO 100 unit.

Combined with LD Systems’ LECC DSP with multi-band limiter, equalizer, compressor, and crossover, this system gives you everything you’re going to need for your event.

On the back we’ve got a Left and Right Input, each with a combo ¼”-XLR jack. You would use the Left for a mono signal, and the volume for these is controlled with the Line level control on top. You’ve got a System Output which is a balanced line output for use with other Maui 5 GO 100 systems, a power socket and fuse holder, and a Power On-Off/Charge switch. When the system is on, you can use it either plugged in or with the included battery, but the unit will only charge when off and connected to the mains.

The Maui 5 GO 100 comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Depending on how hard you’re pushing your Maui 5 GO 100 system, you can get up to 12 hours of run time. [While this is less than the Maui 5 GO, the advantage is some weight and price savings]. The battery takes up to 2 hours to fully charge but fortunately, if you’re needing something sooner, LD Systems offers additional batteries and a separate charger so you can do a quick swap and keep the party going…forever!

For the top of your Maui 5 GO 100, you’ve got 4 x 3” custom-made mid/hi speakers, each with a 1” midrange voice coil, neodymium magnet and each rated at 4 ohms. The speakers sit at the top, included spacer, and the battery all comprise the top section of this system. This top section is housed in a closed construction ABS cabinet, measures around 21in tall, 4in deep, 3in wide, and weighs in at just south of 8 lbs. If you happen to be in a situation where the spacer isn’t needed, maybe you’re up on a riser or stage, you can simply connect the top speakers directly to the battery column.

The Maui 5 GO 100 offers consistent sound for your audience thanks to an ultra-wide 120-degree horizonal dispersion and extended vertical delivery with reduced level drop, as well as a 50hz to 20K hz frequency response.

Set up and break down of the Maui 5 GO 100 couldn’t be easier thanks to foolproof multipin connections, and LD Systems also offers transport bags for the columns and sub, making travel a breeze.

The LD Systems Maui 5 GO 100 is a great solution for anyone in need of a simple setup for live performance or music playback, and you’d be hard pressed to find a column PA system as light AND powerful as this on the market today.
